About the Project
This bungalow was owned by the city and sat vacant for over a decade. In the last few years, the city has made substantial steps towards creating quality housing options in the city’s core. Offloading housing they own and don’t need is a part of that focus.
This property became the city’s through a default from taxes and is not a property the city would use or want. In Jan of 2023, I applied to buy this home with an RFP (request for proposal) process and won the bid!
As I dug into the process further I had questions about what was important to the city in terms of “winning the bid”. The fact that our proposal addressed so much in terms of not just the aesthetic improvements but also the structural and mechanical issues helped us in the end.
It was not solely the price. Also, the homes I acquire I usually sell to homeowners. The city ultimately wants a robust homeownership population and wants to incentivize investors like myself to to help create those options.
